Bamboo inspired lamp bases.

Our Buluh Perindu lamp bases are locally made using sustainable materials and traditional techniques. In Malay, "buluh perindu" holds two meanings. Firstly, it refers to a type of bamboo plant that produces a sweet and melodious sound when the wind causes its stems to rub together. This variety of bamboo is often used to create flutes, or seruling in Malay. Secondly, "buluh perindu" signifies a beautiful voice or sound.

These lamp bases are hand-turned, a traditional woodworking technique that involves rotating a piece of wood on a lathe while shaping it with handheld cutting tools. Similar to a potter's wheel, the lathe continuously rotates the piece of wood, allowing it to be shaped into symmetrical forms.

The earliest wood lathes were used in ancient Egypt and Rome, and the technique later spread throughout Europe and across the globe.  This ancient technique turns basic furnishings into works of art, and this decorative detailing is back in a big way. Often sporting candy colours and unexpected finishes, today's turned wood furniture and accessories put a modern spin on this ancient technique.

This process is used to create a variety of furniture parts, like table legs, bed frames, chair spindles, and in our case lamp bases. We call it Buluh Perindu because of its bamboo shape.

We give our Buluh Perindu lamp bases a modern twist by adding a splash of vibrant colors, allowing you to pair them with your preferred lampshade. This harmonious combination creates a stunning addition to your already beautiful home decor.
